A barbecue session shouldn´t be missed out during a camping trip. It really is the easiest and fastest way to prepare a delicious meal. You can buy your own grill online or in your favourite hardware store. But let’s be honest: It’s going to be pretty expensive and heavy to carry. So why not build your own grill? It’s cheaper, lighter and you can build it yourself in just a few minutes.

All you need is a 10-size can (which holds approximately 3 kg of canned deliciousness), tin snips, aluminum foil and a pair of safety gloves.

 How to do it

 Step 1

Measure! Use a sharpie and mark in the lines that you have to cut into the can. We need parallel slits with a width of 5 cm that begin at the open end of the can. They should end approximately 7.5 cm above the bottom. Take your time with this step. Once cut, it’s nearly impossible to correct mistakes. Repeat these markings all around your can.

Step 2

It’s time for the tin snips: Use them to cut along the sharpie lines, but be careful with the fingers!

Step 3

Bend the strips away from the center to form a flat basket-like container.

Step 4

Fill the bottom of the can with dirt to stabilise it.

Step 5

Cover the dirt and strips with heavy-duty aluminum foil.

Step 6

Place the charcoal on top of the foil and lay the grilling rack on top of the metal strips. It is important to keep the distance between the grilling rack and the charcoal at about 7.5 to10 cm (bend the strips accordingly).

Congratulations! You now have your own DIY tin can grill. Quick and easy!
