We all know: College is the best time of your life. You finally move out from your parents’ house, you discover a new city full of young people, and nobody cares when you actually go to bed. At least in theory. 🙂 However the most awesome thing of attending a college is the people you meet and all the parties you end up going to with them. Here are our top 3 life hacks to meet new and cool friends!
Meet the right people
Three years after my bachelor’s, the people I met in my very first week at college are still my best friends. (They’re totally squad goals as Taylor Swift would say.) My time in college wouldn’t have been as much fun without them. That’s why it is my personal goal to help you make great friends as well. ASAP! But how can you identify cool people in no time? (Cause ain't nobody got time for that!) HIPS! No, I don’t suffer from a bad hiccup that affects my writing as well. HIPS stands for humor, interests, personality, and signals, the four most important points you need to check before spending time with potential friends.
You need to take a closer look at their …
- Humor – Can you laugh together?
- Interests – Do you have common interests?
- Personality – Are they friendly? How do they treat other people?
- Signals – What kind of signals do they send? Are they even interested in a friendship with you?
We all know: Hips don't lie, so give it a try! 🙂
ABCC – always bring canned coffee
In ‘The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy’ Douglas Adams taught us to always bring a towel. Today I’m going to reveal another very essential gimmick that will keep you safe and sound during a long day at college: Canned coffee.
Canned coffee is the perfect companion for almost every college situation. It’s early in the morning (so around noon) and you are lacking energy? Grab a can! You are sitting in your dorm room and it’s boiling hot outside? Grab a can! You are on a date with the love of your life? Grab a can!
Especially when you are trying to make new friends or on a romantic date, a can of delicious coffee is a real ice breaker. It’s no wonder that sitting together, chatting and sipping on a cold or hot beverage is what most of us define as a “great day” – and so do I. So, carry two cans of coffee with you when you are out and about, you never know who you will meet!
Give college parties a chance
Yeah, I know. College parties don’t have the best reputation. They’re loud, full of strange people you only met once (or never at all) and tend to escalate. What I am trying to say is: It’s not everybody’s cup of tea. But even if you don’t belong to the group of party people, give it a chance – you won’t ever forget your first night out at a college party. It’s a whole new experience that you’ll have to make at least once in your life. Nights like these create the stories you’ll tell your grandchildren someday. Don’t hesitate, grab your fancy party pants and have some fun!
Of course besides all the new friendships and fun, you shouldn’t lose focus on what college is all about: Studying. Like really. It’s important. Believe me.
